ITALY – Magical Marzamemi

In Italy, it is officially autumn and officially cold! But here’s a little taste of our early October summertime vibes in Sicilia.

Romantic. Cheerful. Enchanting.

Marzamemi is a small fishing village on the southeast corner of Sicily.
A soft, white glow covers the town, making the ocean’s blueness pop even more.
Stone buildings and terracotta roofing.

Walking around every corner is a dreammmmm.

Marzamemi was founded by Arabs, originally called Marsa al Hamen, which means “harbor of turtle doves.” [1]. It was originally a tuna fishing and packing town, or tonnara, and you can still shop in the old factory for artisanal tuna, anchovies, salami, and pasta.

Of course, we couldn’t leave Marzamemi without eating at the lovely Taverna La Cialoma, located right in the main piazza. Deliciously seasoned octopus, flavorful pasta, and creamy coffee ice cream with hazelnuts to top it off. Yummm!

Marzamemi is quite small, so it is perfect for a relaxing day trip and you can fully experience what it has to offer at a leisurely pace.

Until next time – ciao!
